Obligatory response to the delay of 1.3’s C&C updates

Filed under: The Old Blog — Alex @ 4:06 pm

So my promise of a blog post didn’t quite get fulfilled last night. It was a long night of celebrating the end of yet another school year with some of my best friends, a large bonfire, and good music though, so I hope you forgive me. I logged on a bit late today having slept in later than normal and saw the “Breaking News” ticker on Warhammer Alliance’s homepage. 1.3 will not include C&C updates. While of course there is disappointment at not seeing the next stage of balance that WAR will go (suffer?) through, I feel happier than sad.

My opinion, and I know it is a common one, is that in general Mythic’s changes are too sweeping. Their balancing is akin to taking a grenade to a surgery instead of a scalpel. Don’t get me wrong, I feel that WAR is the second most balanced MMO I’ve played to date (#1 of course being GW). However, what they are doing could be done better. This is the first step along that path. I had a few doubts about whether they could manage to test an entire expansion zone along with a very large update to the class balance as it stands. As I type this post while listening to Green Day’s new album, (very good, by the way) I see a glimmer of hope for WAR. MMO’s nowadays are all about the fast updates. Push it out tomorrow and test it next week and we’re gold. The fact that Mythic has the balls to postpone part of this patch makes me believe that all the built up respect and trust that they earned through beta hasn’t died, it’s just been covered up under a lot of pessimism.

What this game needs is a pick-me-up. The player base needs to have trust in the game they are playing once again. That can happen, and actions like this are what starts fostering that respect.

  1. Very true. I’m a little pissed that they weren’t able to stick to their word, but I’d have been more pissed if the craptastic PTS “balance” had gone live.

Also, I’ll be adding you to my blog-roll. I don’t have the most viewers in the world, but if a few make it across, all’s the better. If you haven’t checked out the WCPI yet at WHA, they have a good community of us bloggers there.

  2. Thanks! I’m still learning all the little tools that go along with managing a blog. I plan on checking out the WCPI and exactly how to use my blogroll right now actually.

  3. I’ll be adding you as well. Great to have a new blogger on the circuit. With luck, you’ll have many new viewers come Tuesday.

    • I appreciate the add, Grimnir, and plan to reciprocate in kind for what it’s worth. I’m quite enjoying blogging as well.

    • Although, I’m not sure how to add you to my blogroll when you aren’t on WordPress =\

      Edit: Found it 😀
